Deconstructions

This deconstruction was created as part of the enrolment task. It consisted of completing research on 3 existing magazines to identify the target audience and how this information was shown on that magazine. I performed this on three leading, popular magazines "Q", "Kerrang" and "Billboard".

I deconstructed a "Q" front cover and contents page in order to identify the features they use in order to identify features that i could use when creating my magazine for my main task.

This link will allow you to review the presentation made following a further deconstruction of "mens health" front cover. This once again annotates the mise en scene and the composition of the front cover of this magazine.

For the deconstructions below these are the magazine pages from the three separate music magazines.

All of these deconstructions set out the codes and conventions of the music magazines some of which I can use for my own magazine creation or ignore completely. After analysing each of these pages I feel I would keep certain features such as;
  • The bright colours in order to catch the attention from my target audience as it will be more eye appealing
  • Simply fonts that stands out but are clear to read in order for my audience to be able to read all text easily
  • use several image that are relevant but not too many that would make the page seem cluttered and too busy
  • make the main story be presented in a bold font in order to make the audience understand clearly which is the main article in the magazine
  • use a limited colour palette of 3/4 colours that complement each other well while also contrasting which links to the Levi Strauss theory to once again catch the attention of the target audience
I also discovered features in which I would ignore when creating my own for the main task such as;
  • Busy pages that would cause a lot of distraction and take the focus away from the main features
  • a lot of fonts styles to un-appeal to the audience

  1. Good work Sophie. Please try and rotate the images you have uploaded as they are difficult to read. You have also linked this research to your own ideas, and explored many ideas for your magazine as a result of this research.
